Full Obstetric Care

Jay Marlow Wellington Obstetrician

I am excited to be able to offer full obstetric care.  This includes first trimester care, throught to birth and the postnatal period.

At the centre of care is the expectant mother. My approach is calm, gentle and confident. I will work closely with you to help you make informed decisions and actively plan your pregnancy and delivery management.

Pregnancy Care Involves

Routine appointments and extra visits as required for obstetric complications that may arise.

The first visit (around 10-12 weeks) generally takes 30-35 minutes. It involves a detailed history and discussion of any relevant issues.

Subsequent appointments are at 14, 20, 28, 32, 36, 38, 40 and 41 weeks. These appointments are approximately 15 minutes.

Each appointment has an ultrasound scan to check baby. Formal diagnostic ultrasound scans are performed when required. Nuchal translucency and morphology scans are performed by external providers at subsidised cost.

Midwife appointments are at 18 weeks (booking),24 weeks, 30 weeks (hospital tour), 34, 37 and 39 weeks (to discuss midwifery care, birthplan and breastfeeding).

Delivery is with the midwife and myself at Wellington Hospital. Hospital stay, as required. After birth, the midwife will make visits to your home.

A postnatal check (4-6 weeks after the birth of your baby) is the final appointment to the rooms to determine your recovery and progress with baby.

Please ensure you are always contactable by phone on the day of your appointment in case of unforseen delays.

Single Consultations

If you require a single consultation, either for pregnancy guidance or a second opinion I am pleased to be able to offer this service. Please see the consultation section for details.

Midwifery Team

I am proud to have my own team of midwives led by our Practice Manager, Alison Curran. They will see you for appointments in their rooms for antenatal care and visits in your home for postnatal care.

At your first appointment with the Alison, she will give you instructions on how to make contact with members of our team.

Together we will care for you during your labour and delivery.

Leave

In the event that you may require my services while I am on leave, cover will be arranged with another private specialist Obstetrician and you will be informed well in advance whenever possible.
